New Windsor
The town of New Windsor was first settled in 1685 by Scotch and Irish emigrants. These settlers built their first buildings on Plum Point which is located on the easternmost edge of town. Once there they built a commodious cabin and a trading post. In 1763, the settlement became a town. During the America Revolution, the town became a major depot for the Continental Army and Army Medical Dept. In October 1782, 6000-8000 people came to this area from all over the 13 colonies. Upon arrival, they began building log huts and eventually a city of 700 shelters was born. George Washington and his troops used this encampment during the last winter of the war. Because of its importance to American history, the town of New Windsor has been working to preserve the area.
Pests in New Windsor
With so many historical wooden huts in one place, you can bet some pests have their eyes on it. One pest that would seek this place out is the termite. Termites are a type of insect that can be found anywhere in the world, except Antartica. These pests feed off cellulose, which is found in wood. Due to this houses made out of wood are easy targets for them. When a termite invades your home, you may end up seeing a swarm of them or a shelter tube, however, these are easily missable. If you don’t see any of these that does not mean your home is free from these vermin.
Termites can live in your home for years without ever being seen. There is no way to completely protect your home from an innovation, but steps can be made to help prevent them. One way is to ensure that water flows away from your home. One way you can do this is by having a sufficient water drainage system installed.
If you find these pests in your home call Masters today. Our team has over 25 years of termite extermination experience.
