Sussex
Sussex is a quaint borough in Sussex County settled in 1742 as “Deckertown, New Jersey.” Considering many homes here predate the Declaration of Independence, it’s easy to imagine how difficult it is to maintain them. Threats to the historic homes in Sussex include termites and carpenter bees. While termites and carpenter bees are less common in Sussex Borough than the more wooded areas in the rest of Sussex County, the old wood structures are particularly vulnerable to these pests.
Common Pests in Sussex
Other pests can also be found in Sussex, including stinkbugs, rodents, as well as everyone’s least favorite pest, bed bugs. Recently, mosquitos in particular, have been reported in very large numbers around the area.
Because mosquitos have a large local presence, Sussex County has been making an effort to control the population themselves. Larvae are being treated with pesticides dropped from a plane over neighboring non-residential areas. However, these particular chemicals have no effect on mature mosquitos. This means the program can only decrease future mosquito populations, rather than affecting them immediately. In addition to this, any mosquito problems near your home will be unaffected, because the program only affects “non-residential” areas.
To treat your local mosquito problems, the secret comes down to eliminating stagnant water. Mosquitos depend on stagnant water to breed, and it often builds up in places like sitting cars and children’s unused yard toys. If eliminating these stagnant water sources doesn’t do the trick, you’re going to want professional assistance.
Whether your pest problem consists of termites, stink bugs, rodents, or mosquitos, call the Masters, at Masters Pest Control. Controlling these pests is what we do, and we’ve been doing it for over 30 years.
