Hopatcong
Located right off of Interstate 80 in Sussex County and only about an hour’s drive from New York City, Hopatcong is known for the beautiful Lake Hopatcong that it borders. Originally a popular tourist and vacation spot, the borough of Hopatcong is now home to thousands of year-round residents. While many of its past attractions, like the Mad House, were destroyed by fires in the 20th century, present-day visitors can enjoy Hopatcong’s various trails and parks.
Ticks in Hopatcong
As with most forested areas located throughout New Jersey, ticks are a prevalent pest within Hopatcong. Though typically thought of as a summer pest, ticks can appear as early as March. As long as the temperature is above freezing, then ticks can become active. In the beginning of the season, they may be difficult to notice since they could still be very small. If you’re going to be outside, it’s best to wear pants and long-sleeved shirts, or clothing that is brightly colored. Ticks that have attached themselves to brighter clothing will be easier to find. Using insect repellant containing DEET can also be helpful. If a tick attaches itself to you, the best way to remove it is with a pair of tweezers. If a rash or other Lyme disease symptoms occur up to a month later, see a doctor as soon as possible.
You can minimize your exposure to ticks if you live in a wooded area by creating a tick-free zone around your home. Make sure your yard is well-kept, with minimal brush and leaves and mowed grass. Keep pets from venturing too far into the woods.
However, the easiest and most effective method of tick control is a professional pest control treatment. Call the Masters at Masters Pest Control. We have over 30 years of experience in pest control solutions, so no matter the problem, we can fix it.
